Theology
The GOAL of the Theology Dept. is to provide a faith-based education to students in a loving and caring environment. Students are introduced to ethical principles and moral values that they, hopefully, will carry with them into their personal lives and into the working world. Above all, teachers try to help students develop a personal relationship with God and to help and to give to others who are not as fortunate as themselves. Besides accumulating knowledge of Religion facts, it is most important that they realize that “RELIGION is a LIFE to be LIVED.”
The Theology Curriculum covers the following topics over the four year program:
Grade 9- an overview of the Catholic Faith
Grade 10- Scripture Course: including both the Old and New Testament
Grade 11- Morality and Social Justice
Grade 12- Life Choices and Church History
Supplementary to the Theology Curriculum, many opportunities are given to the students to participate in:
Liturgies
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Prayer Services
Special Masses (e.g., Ring Mass and Baccalaureate Mass)
Days of Retreat
Also, following the principle of sharing with others, the students at MVHS truly live out the Charism of Catherine McAuley by giving SERVICE.
