Mercy Singers
This is a new singing group at Mercy Vocational High School. We hope to give
students the opportunity for musical performances as well as opportunities
to use their singing talents to enhance liturgies, to participate in the
Christmas Pageant and the Arts Festival. We hope to learn not only liturgical
music but music from Broadway musicals, contemporary pop music, etc.
Rehearsals are Wednesday mornings between 8 AM and 9 AM. As we approach
concert times, other rehearsal times will be added.
Mercy Drummers
Want to know what that racket is coming from room 300 every Tuesday and Friday?
Just when you thought the hallways were noisy enough, the Mercy Drummers arrived!
The Mercy Drummers are a group of about 7 students, mostly underclassmen,
who meet two days a week to learn about traditional African, Latin, and
Caribbean rhythms with moderator, Mr. Simmons.
Over the course of the last several months, the drummers have performed a
Brazilian Samba for the Christmas Tableau, attended a workshop given local
master drummer, Jonathan Blaine, and have prepared as series of rhythms
to be performed at the annual Spaghetti Dinner and Talent Show in March.
The Mercy Drummers, however, do more than just bang on drums for two hours
a week. They encounter new musical ideas, work with their hands, get to
know each other, and communicate exciting ideas through rhythm. Joining
the Mercy Drummers is an invitation to learn more about music from around
the world, as well as to learn more about your classmates
and yourself!
