March News
posted on 02/23/10 @ 01:12pm
March begins after a wonderful Winterfest on Saturday, February 20. All present were committed to providing an exciting and fun-filled day for our guests. We went away with more than we gave and hope that the memories of this day of service linger for everybody long after Winterfest itself. May God bless all involved for their goodness to others.
In addition to our weekly community-service activities and annual Breadbasketball food collection in March, the Mercy school community is embarking on its fifth visit to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to assist with the rebuilding of homes there. Twenty students and seven staff members are leaving on Palm Sunday in late March for two weeks of Operation Katrina. Join us in praying for safe travels and valuable lessons. Visit the homepage of our website for daily pictures and updates starting on March 28.
As this school year ¡§marches¡¨ on quickly, I encourage you to stay informed of all the happenings at Mercy. Visit the web calendar to keep yourself aware of upcoming events. By this time in the school year, the planner/handbook calendar does not capture all our activities.
Let me take this opportunity to point out the March events.
„XMarch 4: Scheduled times for parent/teacher conferences -- Students should be in attendance.
„XMarch 7: Family Mass at 10AM followed by a continental breakfast -- Hope you can come and worship with us. This is a new event and an opportunity to meet some of the other Mercy families. Please send in your number if you have not already done so. Call Sister Mimi at ext. 132 or email mconner@mercyvhs.org or macampellone@mercyvhs.org. There are details on Miss Campellone¡¦s teacher page under Theology.
„XMarch 25 Spaghetti Dinner and Family Bingo¡Xfree dinner and fun for all¡XContact Mr. Carchidi before March 19.
There will be meetings in April for parents and guardians of grades 9 and 12 and Ring Mass for grade 11. Please come to the meetings/events that pertain to you. I look forward to seeing you at these functions.
Originally, there was a faculty day of service on the calendar on March 12. In light of snow days, Miss Glatts and I decided to switch this day to a teaching day with our students. It is our effort to recoup teaching time. Thanks for your understanding. Classes will occur as normal on Friday, March 12.
Hopefully, PowerSchool has helped you to stay informed of your children¡¦s progress. If you ever have any questions about entries in PowerSchool or printed report cards, please do not hesitate to ask. Check on the third-quarter progress. Marks close at the end of this month, March 30. Many students have accomplished wonderful things to date. Others need a good third quarter. Either way, thanks for your involvement, encouragement and participation.
This month holds the days of the Lenten season in prayerful anticipation of the celebration of Easter. We commemorate these holy days with prayer services and opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. May these days of Lent and the promise of Easter brighten your hearts and minds with the wonder of God¡¦s love for you. In these hard financial times, may we find renewed hope and welcomed relief. May peace fill our hearts, our lives, our families, our city streets, and our world. You and yours remain in our prayers.
Peace and all good blessings,
Sister Susan
