The Electricity Program at MVHS prepares students for continuing
education and/or entry-level employment in the residential, commercial or
industrial electrical field with an introduction to HVAC/R (Heating
Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration).
Students become
familiar with the use of hand tools, power tools, equipment, and trade terms
used in electrical careers. In accordance with the national electric-code
requirements, students are trained in the layout, installation, testing, troubleshooting,
construction operations, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
The course of study includes work with meters, test equipment, controls, and
motors. Proper safety procedures are emphasized. Electricity students at MVHS
are trained to support the infrastructure of the hospitality and tourism
industry’s construction and maintenance operations within the city of
Philadelphia. Electrical students are well prepared to take apprenticeship
tests with the hope of continuing their careers.
