In addition to the academic core curriculum that provides all the credits a
students needs for a high school diploma, Mercy Vocational High School offers its students
superior technical training in seven vocational areas of concentration. The three-year
vocational curriculum develops educational and carrer goals, to particiate in an on-the-job learning experience,
and offers students whose talents and career goals are best served by a comprehensive academic/vocational program
the opportunity to acquire entry-level competencies and/or the foundation for post-secondary career education.
Each career area offers students the opportunity to earn professional certification/licensing.
Each vocational shop also has an Advisory Board whose members are from the industry.
These Advisory Boards help the keep the curriculum current, provide co-op opportunities
and often are guest speakers in the various shops. Upperclassmen also have the
opportunity to participate in an on-the-job-learning experience through the Co-operative
Education Program.
All 9th grade students are scheduled for a "Career Exploration" course one period per week.
The course helps guide their shop selection decisions made at the end of the freshman year.
Most 12th grade students are provided with the opportunity to participate in Mercy Vocational
High School's Cooperative Education Program. This is an on-the-job, paid learning experience
for senior students.
The following vocational programs are presently offered:
Business Education
Framing Carpentry
Woodworking Carpentry
Computer Technician
Cosmetology
Culinary Arts
