Electricity
The Electrical course of study at Mercy Vocational High School prepares students for continuing education and/or entry-level employment in the residential, commercial or industrial areas. Students become familiar with the use of hand tools, power tools, equipment, and the trade terms used in electrical careers. In accordance with national electric-code requirements, students are trained in the layout, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
The course of study includes work with meters, test equipment, controls, and motors. Proper safety procedures are emphasized. Electricity students at Mercy Vocational High School are trained to support the infrastructure of a variety of industries in the Philadelphia area. Mercy Electricians are certified through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) in Core Curriculum and Level I Electricity. These students are also listed in the National Registry.
Mercy Vocational High School has 67 students enrolled in the Electricity class for the 2007-2008 school year (10 Seniors, 17 Juniors, and 40 Sophomores).
